             Transformative Educational Experiences: Engaging Students in Authentic Science
ASU Mars Education Program Conference Fall 2015

Bring curiosity and wonder into your teaching by engaging your students in learning science by being scientists! Join us to see how science really works. Learn how you can bring transformative authentic science experiences into your classroom or program.

NASA's science and engineering projects offer fascinating STEM pathways into the future that will expand your students' thinking and understanding of STEM. Our exciting NASA NGSS-aligned STEM activities use current data that bring relevancy to students' understanding of science and involve students in real-world challenges.

So...what does authentic science really look like? What makes a "perfect STEM lesson"? Come to see how we have taken the old style of lesson plans and done an extreme makeover - with science learning "before and after" shots. Learn the steps it takes to unleash your students in science! Why have your students learning science using examples that are 40 - 400 years old when you use science that is happening now?

Participants will engage in STEM-related, hands-on, minds-on activities and be able to access our STEM Marketplace showing innovative ways to engage your students. Conference participants will receive lesson plans and NASA materials. Join NASA and the ASU Mars Team for a hands-on, teacher-focused, professional development conference that will:

  • Show you the ways you can help your students develop skills to think innovatively and solve problems within your curriculum, while engaging your students in more complex STEM learning;
  • Learn how you can use 3-dimensional teaching to apply science and engineering content (disciplinary core ideas (DCI's)) using the NGSS practices and cross-cutting concepts to solve real-world challenges;
  • Address the Next Generation Science Standards and show how NASA-related activities can grow your students in essential skill areas such as critical thinking and essential 21st Century Skills;
  • Enjoy the "Back Stage Pass" experience you will get with our NASA scientists while you learn about the latest challenges and discoveries being made and how you and your students can participate; and
  • Participants will receive a certificate for 6.5 professional development hours.
